Jana participates in research into the biogenesis of photosystem II (PSII) in the Group of Josef Komenda. Specifically, she focuses on auxiliary (assembly) protein factors involved in the early steps of this sophisticated process. Among her top publications is the study of the protein Ycf39 (Slr0399), which binds the so-called Hlips (high light-inducible proteins) and is involved in the photoprotection of the nascent D1 subunit and the emerging PSII reaction center intermediate known as RCII (Knoppová et al., 2014). She has also been involved with the key PSII assembly factor, the protein Ycf48 (Yu et al, 2018), and is the co-author of a study revealing the structure of the RCII complex with bound Ycf48, which illustrates the presumed role of this factor in PSII biogenesis (Zhao et al., 2023).
