Jana participates in research on the biogenesis of photosystem II (PSII) in the Group of Josef Komenda. Specifically, she focuses on auxiliary (assembly) protein factors involved in the early steps of PSII assembly. Among her top publications is the study of the protein Ycf39 (Slr0399), which binds the high light-inducible proteins (Hlips) and is involved in the photoprotection of the nascent D1 subunit and the emerging PSII reaction center intermediate known as RCII (Knoppová et al., 2014). She also co-authored studies on the key PSII assembly factor, the Ycf48 protein (Yu et al, 2018; Zhao et al., 2023).
