Research Interests

I like to work with single-celled algae and spend most of my time with Phaeodactylum tricornutum, Chromera velia and Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. At first, my main focus lied on the investigation of the carbon concentrating mechanism (CCM) but now, I have shifted my interest to the investigation of pigment biosynthesis and degradation. Therefore, I measure physiological parameters and use genetic engineering techniques.

Research topic: Genetical manipulation of the marine diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum and the single-celled green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.

• 2009/12: Diplom (Master’s Degree) in Biology, University of Bremen, Germany & University of Oulu, Finland. Title of diploma thesis: The determination of UV-induced DNA lesions in the brown alga Saccharina latissima.
